The Belle Plaine Area Food Shelf in conjunction with the USDA and Second Harvest Heartland began as an idea in 2009, with a vision for helping those in need in our community. It became a reality in 2011. A few years later , the Belle Plaine Area Food Shelf purchased its own building at 128 North Meridian Street ( its current location) in Belle Plaine. In 2020, we began a collaboration with the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Health and SHIP and received a grant to become a Super Shelf and in 2021, we officially became a SuperShelf.
The mission of the Belle Plaine Area Food Shelf is to provide food with respect and dignity to those in need in the Belle Plaine area by distributing and engaging in partnerships that advance self-sufficiency.
The Belle Plaine Area Food Shelf is supported financially by friends and neighbors in the community and staffed completely by volunteers. Current officers are:
Betsy Ollhoff, President
Vicki Boruff, Treasurer
Jim Lange, Vice President
Pat Ollhoff, Facilities Manager
